Nothing but Black Excellence. Rarely do you see someone remake a song and completely own it. First off I don’t know how old heads was shocked that Luther was gay. I can watch this video and tell, he was just a tad bit too happy. He was having to catch himself, people with nothing to protect don’t catch themselves. That’s neither here nor there though, cause that’s his business. This started out as a tribute performance but ended with people forgetting Dionne Warwick sang it first. Even she was looking at Luther like “I know I let you borrow it but damn! You ain’t have to embarrass me with it” My dog Luther had everything working. Bow tie. Check. Ron Isley too big for your mouth teeth. Check. Slow rock making eye contact with every woman(or guy) in the crowd. Check. Jheri curl shimmering.Check. Straight up floated through this like it was nothing. You don’t see stuff like this nowadays. All these “R&B artist” today are products of studio magic, trying to blur the line between rappers and R&B singers, or doing dance music. Ain’t a singer popping right now that can do something like this. The art of the slow jam is lost and the only people who know how to make one are dead or don’t care. Speaking of slow jams 5:52 for a flash of the sample. Song so great you can take a piece of it and make another great song. Wow. The most amazing thing about this performance is that there’s no sound quality drop off from the recorded versions. That is unheard of, live performances are not supposed to mirror recorded versions of songs…Ever. You have to be VERY gifted vocally to do that. Luther was that dude. It’s a shame he didn’t like women cause he could have walked out of there with any woman in there when he was done. I mean he could’ve just dropped the mic, walked off stage into the crowd, pointed at any chick, and rolled out.
